Bringing Local Produce Right to your Table

Better Food Company

From humble beginnings packing veg boxes in a kitchen in Bristol’s St. Werburghs along the Frome Valley, we’ve been serving our local community for over 25 years. Today, you can find us in four locations across the city, employing over 100 people passionate about food, health, the planet and our customers.

We stock some of the best organic, local and ethical brands available. In each of our stores you’ll find everything from fresh produce to store cupboard staples, chilled foods to fresh bread, body care and household products, gifts and more. We also have a huge range of food for those with health in mind and for special diets, including vegan or dairy free, gluten free or coeliac.

Each of our stores has a café or deli, where you can pick up hot drinks and warming soups, freshly baked cakes and pastries, and bright salads, juices and smoothies to make you glow. Our two larger cafés at St. Werburghs and Wapping Wharf serve cooked brunches and lunches, and are a perfect spot to meet friends or watch the world go by.

Our values are at the core of everything we do, and go beyond just the food on our shelves. We aim to be a positive force in our community—supporting local causes, campaigning about the things we believe in and making each of our stores a thriving hub of activity and events.

Welcome to our organic, local, ethical—altogether better—food community

St Werburghs Farm Shop

Elm Tree Farm Shop in Stapleton near Eastville

Elm Tree Farm’s farm shop has everything you need for a delicious, locally-sourced meal, as well as a number of seasonal items and gifts.

We have a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables available throughout the seasons.  All stock grown at Elm Tree Farm is produced using organic methods and grown within 200 metres of the shop.  To ensure a good variety, we support other local organic growers to stock additional fruit and veg.  For the more adventurous cooks, we also sell fresh herbs grown in our nursery, and have plans to produce a wider range of medicinal herbs in the coming season.

We also have a range of frozen meat, with all the livestock raised using high welfare RSPCA ‘Five Freedoms’ principles, and all beef stock is grass reared. Bacon (remember how it used to taste before the watery supermarket bacon?), sausages, and free-range eggs are also available.

To top it off, we also sell a range of seasonal chutneys, jams, and juices, all lovingly made using seasonal produce by the Farm team.

For the house and garden, the shop sells edible and ornamental plants, seasonal fresh flowers, and a range of dry stock products. There are also bird boxes and tables, bug hotels, wooden planters, and some wooden gift items made by the Splinters team, as well as bags of kindling and logs to keep you warm through winter.  Splinters also up-cycles wooden furniture and makes high-end wooden items to order. Anything you can’t find, remember there’s an M&S Food Store down the road at Eastgate Retail Park as well.
